Golden Boot Challenge

The Golden Boot Challenge is now a firm favourite in Woking, and across Surrey, with 250 schools particpating each year.

The challenge encourages pupils to adopt a sustainable method of travelling to school, and with Woking's Cycling Town status, going by bike is always a firm favourite.

Pupils score points if the travel to school by:

  • Bike

  • Walk

  • Car share or park `n' stride

  • Scoot or skateboard

  • Bus

  • Train

  • Taxi

There is a "baseline" day in May, when pupils record how they normally travel. Then in June the challenge begins. Schools can participate for any number of school days they want to in June - some schools do all the days, some run the challenge for whole week, some one day a week for the month.

Classes record their travel onto their own class web page. The Golden Boot Trophy is awarded to the class (or classes) with the best green score! This can be the highest green score or the greatest change, or both - it's up to the school.

Many schools also add their own special events and classroom activities to add to the fun!
